Grey Cup Festival
As part of the Grey Cup Festival, illScarlett played the Doritos Rush Hour Concert on the Pepsi Front Street Stage (if that's too much product placement for you already, then don't read the next sentence). The stage took up part of Front St. near the Rogers Centre. It was a cold evening for an outdoor concert with temperatures dipping down to about -8° C. Alex wore fingerless gloves throughout the show that were provide to him by a fan in the crowd. And I think this was the first concert I've ever been to where I could see the performer's breath in the air due to the low temperatures.
At one point, the band was joined on stage by four Argos cheerleaders who presented Alex with a 2008 calendar. But I have to say I thought the best part of the show was Jonny D's Goofy sweatshirt. Something about it just seemed so un-rockstar, which in turn just seemed so cool. Hilarious. The set was well received by a good-sized crowd of shivering fans, and after the set was over, some walked along with the band while they were escorted over to the Rogers Centre to prepare for the Vanier Cup half-time show.
Vanier Cup Half-Time Show
As the players left the field for a short half-time break, illScarlett took the stage that was setup at the South end of the dome. For the half-time show, they performed three songs accompanied by some pyrotechnics in the first song, and bunch more in the last song. The dome filled with smoke from the blasts of the white and red fireworks. I think the Rogers Centre was just over half-full for the game, which means about 28,000 people were in attendance. Images of the band were shown on the big screen while they played.
