There's this guy Dan who puts together band showcases at Rancho Relaxo every now and then, called Two Way Monologues. He also runs a website of the same name that has information on the shows and also hosts album reviews. The first TWM showcase I attended was in October with Krief and The Schomberg Fair. It turns out these events have fallen on good nights to meet up with friends and have a few low-priced pints of tasty ale at Rancho Relaxo, so both times I've been to these events, I've pretty much just treated them like a night out. That means less time taking thinking about what I could write about the bands, and more time drinking with my friends. Which translates to this article containing pretty much just photos.
Both TWM nights have had excellent turn-outs, nearly (if not completely) packing the place. If you're looking for a cheap night out with good beer and great music, you pretty much can't go wrong for the $7 cover (sometimes less). The next event is Thursday, December 13th, same location, and includes a set by Oh No Forest Fires, which in itself should make the showcase worthwhile.
Golden Hands Before GodBands that bring along their best drinking buddy to play tambourine and strip off their shirts always have a place in my concert-going schedule. Golden Hands Before God was the last band on for the night, and by this point I was having a great time. So was the band. Actually, that first statement is a little unfair, Jamie Greer plays more than just the tambourine, and his contributions to the songs can be heard and make the experience better.
