Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I still don't quite understand what The Festival Ball was all about, other than, say, hedonistic pleasures. Perhaps that was the point, or maybe it was tied to the Toronto Film Festival somehow, I never did find out. And even though the party at The Berkeley Church was a guest list only event hosted by Vice Magazine, it seemed that getting on the guest list was just a matter of knowing that the event was happening. The total package included free drinks all night, a 14-song set by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and a loot bag with Calvin Klein and Rimmel stuff in it as well as a print copy of Vice.
I'm not going to write a lot about the performance, largely because I was taking full advantage of the free drinks, but I will say that Karen O (vocals) was out of control. I'm talking head-grabbing mad. It was a sweaty, insane performance, for both the band and the crowd. For the big finish, she swung her microphone in big circles bringing it down full-force, bashing it onto the stage. Multiple times. Man, she must really hate that microphone.
I'd heard people say that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were great in concert, but never heard any details. Sometimes people just love the music, so they love the stage show. Sometimes it is the stage show that can make you love the music. Sometimes it's everything... the stage show, the crowd, the location, the free drinks, and the promise of hot celebrities, even if none were in sight. Yeah. (Yeah, yeah!)
